Tar & Untar in one step in unix

tar cf – $yesterday/* | gzip > /tmp/ins-$yesterday.tar.gz
For tar.gz
gzip -dc target.tar.gz | tar xf -
For tar.bz2
bzip2 -dc target.tar.gz | tar xf -
